Full Version: Question about abuse@domain.com

I was wondering by default how Cpanel/Exim works with abuse@customersdomain.com. Is there an abuse@ already created by default when setting up a client? When you run DNSreports.com on the domain it shows there is one there. But I have yet to create one myself. Now, would it be best for all abuse@domain.com to go to the system administrator? So they can look into the problem? If thats is okay, how would I go about setting that up.

Any information would be appreciated!

I believe that Cpanel creates a 'Catch-All' account by default and that is where all abuse emails and everything else which does not go anywhere would land up in and that is probably why it shows up as existing.

That makes total sense. Thanks for the reply. Is there a way for me to setup all abuse@customerdomain.com goto an email address I like? I would think this would be a good way to get a heads up of whats going on with your server.

Also if the catchall is setup for :blackhole: what then? icon_sad.gif

Thanks!

Yes, you could set up an 'abuse@customerdomain.com' and that would take all mails to that account so it would not be diverted to the catch-all account. Basically the catch-all will take all mails address to a non-existent account.

I am not sure about Cpanel/WHM but I would personally disable the catch-all email account as they only contains junk mails for me.

So do I have to goto each customers account to create the abuse address? I was wondering if there is a way I can create a global one.

I will hit Cpanel forums about this.

Thanks again for your time.

Yup, I believe you need to create it for every single account. However, it might be possible to hack the script which WHM uses when creating accounts to support this but probably each time a new updates come, that might be knocked off again.
