Full Version: Benchmark mania :: Intel Celeron vs P4 vs Xeon :: &More

amp
I thought i would post benchmarks because numbers prove points. Some of the stuff posted here may help you decide on a personal computer or a server. I would like everyone to post benchmarks that they have found too.

Few points to keep in mind about the numbers you see.

- The system specs are most likely different then the servers SM/TP offer. Some bench markers use low latency or fast ram and sometimes over clock. The hard drive speeds are important also.

- When looking for benchmarks, look for the Application or Synthetic benchmarks. If you are looking for a home system for gamming etc you should check out those benchmarks as well. In a server only the core components matter, ram, cpu, motherboard and hard drive.

- Um still thinking about more stuff)

This shows a list of 65 cpus. The list is becoming outdated. They use RDRAM on the higher end cpus.

Here is a dual vs single xeon and P4 EE. It is helpful. I would suggest reading it to understand the implications of single and dual cpu setups.

Well i am done for now. I will update it later, it takes time. I hope its a good resource for everyone. Maybe this will get sticky icon_cool.gif

thanks for all the links!

maybe someone (KEVIN!) could pin this icon_smile.gif

Woohoo! Links a'plenty! I'm moving this to the hardware forum and sticky'ing it. icon_biggrin.gif

Wow, I have always been an AMD fan. I am not sure how that happened, I think maybe because I saved money when I used them to build my PCs. AMD's are great, but wow, according to the application benchmarks, P4 is a powerful monster. I made a good choice by going with the P4 2.8 server!

When you look at the opertons now though they outperform intel by far.

I wonder if TP/SM could give an order to one tech to perform the benchmarks on the standard servers with common OS (RHEL3 usually, or RHEL4 for x86_64) and post there or even create separate page(s)?

This is easy task to perfom, but would be unique in the dedicated hosting niche. Also results could be surprising enough.

Guys, what do you all think of it?
