Full Version: Why is processor count set to 10 on default install?

Question:

On my cpanel system, I see by default servermatrix has set my hyperthreaded P4 2.8 server to have extracpus=8 so cpanel thinks it is a 10 cpu system when running stats.

Why?

Is this intentional or a glitch?

Should I set it down to 1 or 2 for lower load? I notice that once a day my load goes up to 10-20 which is huge, and I believe this is likely the reason, but I'm curious why it was set this way by default.

/scripts/runstatsonce
This script requires cPanel 6.4.2 Build 11+

==> on this system may cause excessive load!
==> You should set extracpus=0 in /var/cpanel/cpanel.config

==> Shared RRDTOOL support enabled
==> Ignoring lastrun files and running all stats now
==> cpanellogd will exit after stats have run

Never mind - I didn't realize this was the number pulled from the WHM tweak settings - the different wording threw me off - sorry icon_redface.gif

Now I just have to find the right balance for that number to keep loads from spiking too high and yet still allow stats to be processed.
