Full Version: Two servers, one DNS

I have two servers in different datacenters (one in SM). Now the one @ SM is running cPanel and everything is working properly. I want the other server to use the DNS for the SM server and that one has cPanel too.

I tried changing the resolv and nameserver config, but the domain doesn't work. How do I add the domain to the DNS to point to the second server?

Thanks

It should work.

On the remote server, change all the DNS Server entries at your domain name registrar to point to DNS servers hosted on the server you have in SM.

Then on your SM server, go to DNS Admin section and add the necessary zone information in there. Make sure they points to the IPs of the remote servers and you should do fine.

thanks, the main domain works but when I add subdomains to the other server the site doesn't work. Do I have to restart BIND everytime I create a new account?

EDIT: would a cluster work?

I think you need to setup a primary/slave DNS server, or trust relationship but I am not totaly sure on this.

You could restart BIND. Sometimes it does not update itself until a restart.

I've done subdomains before and it works fine. Pretty much like if you are using SM's DNS servers.
