Full Version: DNS zone: Slave or Master
The Planet Forums > Control Panels > Plesk

This is an option when setting up domain templates:
Type of domain DNS zone
[] Slave
[] Master

Am using the ThePlanet's DNS, so unsure what this does or what should be selected. Plesk documentation is scant in the online help and in the .pdf manual. Google has something in (Italian?), but...

Well, if you are using our DNS servers, you wouldn't need to add your own DNS. You would just need to submit a DNS Change Request for every domain that you host so we can add them in.

Your DNS service rocks. But this is a problem in Plesk - it's a toggle choice with no documentation. Well, I suspect there IS documentation, but I sure haven't found it.

I know somebody on here will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe in the server setup fields, you can disable DNS. If this is disabled, and you have your resolvers setup properly, you can set that checkbox to Master, as it really won't make a difference.

I believe it doesn't matter unless you are running your own nameservers.

Ok - totally my bad. looks like my session had timed out and i had not sucessfully turned off DNS. With DNS off the Master/Slave choice goes away. So now i have 2 domains that I created with DNS on... PLESK manual says:

QUOTE
If you are running remote DNS, and therefore want to turn DNS off, you should create the appropriate NS entries to be stored in the template. To add a nameserver: click Add DNS record, enter the nameserver in the appropriate input field, and click OK.

1. Looks like this means add an
ns
record with the value NS1.THEPLANET.COM
??

2. Do I have bad ns.<domain>. records on the box that need to be purged?

 icon_rolleyes.gif Ha ha -paying for my mistake!
