Full Version: Best way to avoid all sites being blocked by China?
The Planet Forums > System Administration > DNS Hosting

Hello,

Because one of the sites on my server is Tibet related, China has blocked access to my main IP. Unfortunately, the domain that is blocked is the one I used as nameservers for all 70 (mostly non-Tibet related) sites on my server.
ns1.domain1.com
ns2.domain1.com
I've set up another site on the server as a reseller with nameservers on different IP's.
ns3.domain2.com
ns4.domain2.com
...and transferred a test site over to those nameservers.
Although a 'whois' is for that domain shows the new nameservers, when I ping that domain, I still get domain1's IP's.
I suspect I've missed something in the process.

Any suggestions on how best to handle this situation would be much appreciated.

If you set up the new DNS entry on the same machine, it is probably going to re-map back to the first because there is effectively only 1 DNS server running on your machine which listens on 4 IPs and not 4 DNS servers. One thing you could do is probably use ThePlanet's DNS servers and see if it works. Make sure that the new sites have different IP address. It may work, it might not depending on the extend of the ban.
