Full Version: Grub config file problem with new kernel?
The Planet Forums > Operating Systems > Red Hat Linux

Just did an up2date to pull in kernel-smp-2.4.21-9.0.3.EL. Grub complained about a missing template or something like that, so I had to add the new kernel to my grub.conf file by hand. Did anybody else have this problem? It worked fine, one of my two servers is rebooted with the new kernel (I'll do the other tonight when not so many people are using it), but I'm surprised that this happened, and I'm not sure if it's something special about my servers that breaks the kernel upgrade or if its a mistake of Red Hat's.

I have the same problem with my box after a kernel update...same grubby template issue.

Just edited the files manually and rebooted...worked great.

grub.conf was updated correctly for me after running "up2date kernel" but the System.map symbollic link wasn't updated. I hand edited it and re-booted without problems.
