Full Version: Strange Logging/Stats Problem

I'm experiencing an odd problem with the logging statistics on one of the sites hosted on my server which I can't seem to solve.

I use AWStats primarily to keep track of my traffic statistics, and it works perfectly for two thirds of each month. On around about the 20th/21st of each month, the stats stop updating completely, but start working again at the start of the following month. Analog is also installed and experiences the same problem.

If I click 'update now' in AWStats, the 'last update' text at the top changes to reads the current date and time, but the statistics do not update. I also get the following message :

Warning: HostAliases parameter is not defined, awstats choose "mysite.com localhost 127.0.0.1".

Despite this, the statistics always seem to suddenly start working again on their own at the start of the following month, and this problem is not present with any of the other sites on the server.

Can anyone shed some light on why this is happening ?

Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same problem. Any idea on why it is happening? It's only for one particular account, the others on the same box seem to be fine.

I just found out that it has to do with the log file reaching the 2 GB limit. No new info can be written on the log, so Awstats can't record anything.

During the start of the month, the logs are reset, so it would work fine again.

Anyone know how to change the file size limit for the access logs?

Log into WHM, go to tweak settings, and check mark the box that says "Delete each domain's access logs after stats run".

See if that works for you.

it does NOT depend on the stats tool you use. the same problem occurs with webalizer i.e.
the log file size is limited so it doesnt record anything anymore if it has reached its limit.

unfortunately i am not the super crack of webserver/apache systems so i dont know where and how th change the log file sizes! does anybody know?

...i have the same problem with some of my heavy visited websites - this sucks!

The 2gb limit is an operating system limit and nothing to do with apache.

Just delete the stats files (usually in /usr/local/apache/domlogs) after your stats have run.
