Full Version: Hostname for 2 servers

I have a server with the hostname of one.server.com. server.com being a domain on this server. It's been working fine ..

I just got another server and want the hostname to be two.server.com.

How do I handle this with DNS? Do I just go ahead and call it that and add an A entry for it on the second server as if the first does not even exist? Or .. Do I need to add something on the second server pointing to the first?

I ask because I am getting some 553 mail errors telling me two.server.com does not exist.

Also ... I have ns1.server.com and ns2.server.com on the first server and ns5.server.com - ns6.server.com on the second. Is this okay even though server.com is a domain on the first server? I have the correct IP's setup with the registrar.

Thanks.

I'm having the same question as Topic Starter, but do not know what FarCry means by that. It's a lil cryptic... icon_redface.gif

Basically:

you have 2 servers and you wish to name the servers server1.domain.com and server2.domain.com

on the server that is hosting domain.com you must add A entries on the dns settings to look like this:

server1.domain.com A IP of first server
server2.domain.com A IP of second server
etc..etc....

I hope this helps.

So I should only add an ANAME entry for the second server on the first server for ns3.myname.xxx and ns4.myname.xxx to work correctly on the second server ?
