Hello,

I'm new to SM and just got my box few days ago icon_smile.gif

[[[ I'm learning as fast as I can ]]]

questions:

1) I change the registrar for (abc.com) and (abc.net) to ns1/2.servermetrix.com.

2) they have already propogated, but the site is not working.

3) my server is at ##.##.##.## and I set up an account for abc.com (via WHM)

4) I **beleive** its not working because I have not made a 'DNS Request' to add to SM DNS... is this correct?

5) If this is true:
- Where do I go to make the requestin Orbit?
- How do I make it?
- I read a post that someone made a DNS request but they added it to ns1.theplanet.com (and not to ns1.servermatrix.com) --- WHY is that?

6) I get this error when logging into WMS:
Hostname A Entry Missing!

"The server was unable to lookup an an A entry for its hostname (servername). This is generally because the entry was never added. However this could also be the result of your nameserver(s) being down. If you would like to attempt to automaticlly add the entry, click here. "

So I click there and get this:

"Found your hostname to be: servername
Found your short hostname to be: servername
Found your domain name to be:
Found your main ip to be: ##.##.##.##
If this looks correct, Add the Entry"

I click add the entry
Then it says this:

"Adding an A entry for servername
Zone does not exist, a new zone for servername. will be created.
Sorry, a DNS entry for servername. already exists, please delete it first Add Complete "

What do I do???

7) I'm going to put (abc.net) as a sub-domain under (abc.com) via the 'forum' directory.... Do I make a DNS request for that as well or does cPanel/WHM handle that?

Last ONE!
I'm actually using abc.com/.net
as a "test" domain names. I wanted everything working live and tested to make sure it works. AFTER this, I want to do the following, [will this work]
- in WHM, edit account name from abc.com to REAL-name.com
- and obviously, do the DNS requests/changes

WILL this work the way I think it will??
REAL-name.com is the LIVE site right now, while I get abc.com up and running, tested.

THANKS

Okay I'm not sure where to start here. First, ServerMatrix does not host DNS for you. They will, however, slave your zones. So, what that means is YOU need to setup the DNS zone on your end, allow transfer and send notifies to their DNS servers.

In responce to your questions:

1) No, that's wrong. You want to go into your registror and add host records for ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com. The IPs will be your server for ns1, and I guess ns2 will be ServerMatrix's DNS server since they will probably be doing slaving for you.

2) See #1. That'll fix it.

3) Ok?

4) No, see #1. ServerMatrix does not host DNS for you. They will slave for you, though.

5) Orbit -> Network -> Domain Admin. Click the DNS Change Request Form link thing.

6) What's the hostname of your box? You'll need to add an A record to the domain's zone for the hostname of your box and that message will go away.

7) cPanel will automaticly add an A record for you subdomains to your zone. Actually, I think it'll be a CNAME for whatever example.com is since it'll be the same IP probably.

8 ) If I were you, I'd delete the account abc.com and add an account for real-name.com (I'm assuming the current production site is not on the same box). Get your site setup and working fully, then just change it's NS records to ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com.

If you would use real domain names here, it would make things easier I think. But your choice...
