Howdy - new to this forum.

I'm deciding on renting a server from SM, and want to run Debian on it - for apt-get sweetness reasons. I'd like to get my setup request properly done right from the start, but have no experience on the level of specificity this requires.

Would it be enough if I state "latest STABLE", "2.6 kernel" and "ext3"?

I saw someone mentioning a request for a "netinstall" - but I haven't ran into much information about what I might expect then. I'm reasonably used to Linux sysadmin chores, but haven't installed Debian on a naked system for a loooong time.

Any advise on what I'd better ask upfront during server setup would be very much appreciated!

Thanks,

Steven

You'll want to request any special partitioning when you place the order, IIRC the default is 1G swap and the rest on /.

That's basically it. SM people installed mine how I would've wanted it, base install with SSH and Exim (unconfigured), everything else I added myself.

Just specify your filesystem and partition needs and kernel version and they'll do the rest.
