Full Version: Help! Subdomain forwarding to a directory
The Planet Forums > System Administration > DNS Hosting

Ok I am using ThePlanet's name servers and it is all working fine and dandy, but I was wondering if it is possible to forward a specific subdomain to a directory.

Baisically what I am trying to do is get webmail.cyber-tronix.net to forward to www.cyber-tronix.net/mail I have tried to get this to work through the domain admin in orbit, but have only been able to get subdomains to point to ip's or fully qualified domains. I am not even sure if it is possible, but was wondering what I need to enter in the subdomain line to get it to forard like that if it is possible.

I don't know to do this in DNS, but isn't this a virtual domain setup in IIS or Apache? The web server is set up so that a specific URL goes to a specific directory?

This needs to be done in your web server. DNS, generally speaking, maps hostnames (as opposed to full urls) to IP addresses.

Off the top of my head...

In the properties for a web site, there's a spot for the IP Address. It also has a text box for the "host header" value. set this to the URL address on whatever yout IP is that's hosting hrttp:

Pretty much look up host headerfiles on Technet or the web.
