Hello,
(I am not sure if I post this in the right forum.)
I have a question about creating subdomain in any folders.
From cPanel, I can create subdomain (say "apple/ ) how do I do that without creating a redirect? Can I create subdomain without using cPanel?
The problem with redirection is if someone goes to the http://apple/ if I use redirect, which is ugly.
And the benefit of putting all subdomains under a single folder can make my life easier if I have a huge number of subdomains (e.g., apple ... etc)
Thanks in advance.

Each account created with have an equivalent entry in httpd.conf . Just change the directory it points to and you will do fine.
Yes, by adding the subdomain entry in httpd.conf will allow you to add subdomains without using Cpanel. However, at the same time, you will not be able to use cpanel to manage them.
You will also require a respective 'A' entry for each of the subdomain in BIND.

what you can do is create the sub in cPanel then make the changes to the users httpd.conf. This will set up all the dns entries for you.

Thank you eddy and FarCry. I use cPanel to create subdomains for me, then I do the changed.
Do I need to re-launch BIND and Apache for the changes to take effect? If so, how do I re-launch them?
Another question, I have same sets of files (domain.com.db ... etc) in
/etc/namedb
/var/named
Which one shall I edit? Both?
(I want to get rid of "www" line)
I am in FreeBSD.

Since you have Cpanel/WHM, why not use 'Edit DNS' function in WHM to handle that. It will be a load easier to make changes to the DNS.
Yes, you can restart BIND from within WHM.
