AMD64 isn't a processor. It's an instruction set extension supported by the following CPUs:
AMD Athlon 64
AMD Athlon FX
AMD Opteron
The Athlon 64 is the low-end consumer desktop processor. The Athlon FX is the high-end consumer processor. The Opteron is the server-processor.
So, saying that AMD64 is better than the Opteron is like saying that SSE is better than the Pentium 4.
