Is anybody still using 8.5.4-RELEASE 72? (the last stable, not the current stable) Cpanel? Just wondering if it is safe to upgrade to yet. Just had a look at
http://layer2.cpanel.net/ and they dont seem to list the latest stable release.

The 'Release 72' is not a stable version but belongs to the release tree.
The latest stable is 'WHM 8.8.0 cPanel 8.8.0-S74'. I am using this and have not encountered any issues. It is safe to upgrade.

Now thats weird. I have my setting set to "Manual Updates Only (STABLE tree)" "Manual Updates Only" so why am I running a reslease?
This is what I have showing in WHM:
WHM 8.5.4 cPanel 8.5.4-R72
RedHat 9 - WHM X v2.1.1

Ah, I had that problem with one of the build of WHM too. I can't remember which version now.
What I did was to upgrade to the latest Release as per what it does then opt to downgrade to the latest Stable version after that.
By the way, was the upgrade radio button options vertically or horizontally listed ? If it is horizontal then it was that same stupid build that I had which exhibits the same issue as what you are facing.

Have been running cPanel 8.8.0-S74 since it came out...no problems to speak of...no noticable probs anyway.

Ah, just upgrade to the latest Release then if you want the stable just downgrade to a stable and you should do fine.

Cant you simply upgrade from release to stable, rather then upgrade to release and then down to stable?
I have my setting in WHM set to "Maunal Stable" and "Maunal Updates Only"

i believe he was stating that there is a problem with your release build and it is best to upgrade and then downgrade. ive done this many times before and no harm comes from it.

Just wondering the best way to go about upgrading this. As I am on Release 72 (not sure how as I have it set to stable) should I change this to release and then in WHM----->Cpanel------> Upgarde Cpanel?
Once there, should I then go into WHM and select stable and again, go under "Capnel" in WHm and click upgrade?
Thanks

Jayy,
Like I said before, there is a bug in WHM so if you set it to 'Release' or 'Stable' upgrade, it will still give you 'Release' upgrades. But subsequent version have that fixed. So once you done upgrading to the latest version of 'Release', you can set it to update to 'Stable' only and do the upgrade again, this will bring you back to the current 'Stable'.
