i am new to ipsec and win2k3 so i applied the configuration found here http://forums.servermatrix.com/viewtopic.html?t=3252

how can i tell if it is working? and if it is working what am i looking for?

IPSec definites which ports would be open so checking the Orbit Monitoring would be useful. If you see that it is not reporting any errors, it would mean that you got the right ports open for the right services there. Then try ftp, emailing and surfing the web pages on your machine.

If you blocked some ports then try pinging or see if you could access those services in those ports, they should not connect.

thanks for the reply,

apparently its not working, because according to that default config i should only be able to connect via remote desktop and there should only be server monitoring, but i can connect via ftp, http, and surf the web from the machine.

i removed the default policies, assigned mine, reread the configuration and now im stuck. i already blocked myself out by applying one of the default configs, so i know ipsec itself is working.

any help or suggestions would be great.

The policy referenced in the link above will not activate the filter by default. You need to go into the IPSec manager and turn it on.

Edit 22nd March 2004:
Forgot the "block all" filter in the script. See updated version at:

Anyone still got that config file? The links are dead.

change the part where it has page.html to page.php, they switched it around a while ago.
