Full Version: 2 servers... combined bandwidth?

Hi guys,

If I get 2 servers, which both have an allowance of 1000gb - 1 for a database server, 1 for web - am I able to have a total bandwidth limit of 2000GB? Or can I get one server discounted (since traffic for the database server will be internal, server-to-server)?

Thanks icon_smile.gif

PS - if the reply to the above is positive, I will be looking for a PayPal-accepting reseller icon_wink.gif

Transfer between the two servers would be counted towards your monthly bandwidth allocation unless you rent both machine at the same time and opt for the crossover cable option using the 2nd NIC card. This option however is not available for the Celeron based machines from what I understand.

I believe the 1000gb bandwidth cannot be shared or pooled together with other servers, it just represents free bandwidth allocation per server.

Someone in another thread guesed if you ordered the 2 servers at the same time and a $25/mo 8 port switch with only the switch connected to the SM routers then you would be able to have the bandwidth shared between the 2 servers.

I cannot verify if this is correct or not.

You don't need a switch for 2 machines. If they're SuperServers you don't need to pay any extra fees. If they're Celerons you need to pay 10$/mth per server for the network cards.

You can do load balancing over the local segment between the two machines to share the bandwidth.

Some people have wanted to use one server as a data/email server and the other as the web server - one uses all the bandwidth and the other uses very little if any at all hence the switch idea someone came up with. This way forces SM to give you the 2tb to the switch if they will let it

I'd also like to hear about this from an SM tech.

I want to have 2 machines, one dual xeon and a celeron, then put my website and a few other things on the celeron, and gameservers on the xeon.
