I don't want to bug SM every time the kernel needs to be updated. With RHE, I get this error:

The last time I updated I also got the grub error and when I rebooted nothing came up and the rescue disk had to be called in. So, I haven't rebooted yet.

Anyone know how to fix this error? I'm too chicken to reboot, since I need this system to be up this weekend.

When I was trying to upgrade the kernel, I got the same error....After reboot, nothing was changed....
still wandering how to get the kernel upgraded...

I've had that error everytime in RH9. The kernel gets installed, however when you reboot, it still loads the old kernel.

You have to edit your grub.conf file.
I do not know how in RHE but in RH9 its in /boot/grub/grub.conf

edit the file: You will see a pattern there as to how it calls the kernels.
I wish I had an example for you - i'm not near my ssh pc. Just make sure when you copy and paste that the 'new' information about the kernel actually exist in /boot/ If the files you're referencing to do not exist...don't expect your server to boot up without SM's help.

Hope this helps

Thank you, I will look at that. I need to gather all my good luck charms -- perhaps even a box of Lucky Charms, then I will attempt a reboot icon_smile.gif

Got the same thing on my RedHat Enterprise 3 server yesterday when I updated the kernel with up2date.

Had to edit the /boot/grub/grub.conf file manually and add the new three lines for the new kernel. Just don't do what I did and try and edit your grub.conf on no sleep. (z not x... z not x... z not x...)
