I want to host the reverse DNS zones for my IPs. Is this available?

You could host the reverse DNS entry on your server if you own the IP block but since the ones here at SM are own by the Planet, there is nothing much you can do about it.

Could I not be delegated authority for my IP block. Since I don't have a /24, I'm not sure how setting up the delegation configuration would work. Anyone have any thoughts?

I don't believe you could do that here. You might want to talk to Sales in regards to that but the answer would probably be No.

Unless thing’s have changed sm don’t support RFC2317 delegation
When I asked for it this was the response I got
QUOTE
(xxxxxxxx-12/15/03-13:34):
the RFC you are refering to is the one that deals with Reverse dns delegation. We do not do reverse dns delegation. If you have any reverse dns requests please submit a reverse DNS ticket in orbit.

Yeah that's about the same thing I got. I'm going to submit PTR records for my IPs, and they'll impliment them which is fine by me.

SM do reverse delegation to customers with their own /24 (registered) AFAIK.
That is what one of the technicians told me at least.
Thanks

I also asked for delegation (to manage PTR records on my own) and they said no

To do deligation, you have to have a full Class C block of IPs. I think they will deligate it if you have that.

No, there is a way to assign 2-3 delegations. When I had SBC as my provider with my own /29, they let me run my own DNS servers by setting the PTRs as CNAMES of a subdomain and giving me delegation of that subdomain. It was pretty nice actually.
Now, the only reason I see a need for having delegation for yourself is because of vhosts for irc. Otherwise a one time change to server.domain.tld would be fine... am I wrong here?

Is there some point in rdns that I'm missing? I guess I don't see a point in it as long as rdns points to something so that email gets through it should be fine to leave the default. Right now the rdns should point to the NOC domain. Do people want the NOC to remain anonymous?
It seems like to me using the NOC's domain would actually save on IP's since you wouldnt need to assign new NS IP's to every reseller. They could just use the same NS IP's since the rdns is not assigned to any one host in particular. Right?

Yeah I know they CAN, but they told me that they won't do it unless you've got a full /24. Not sure who said that, but I asked them on the phone I think.

so if you don't have a /24, you have to request what entries to use for SM to host them on their nameservers? Has anyone got this accomplished? I would love to be able to host my own PTR records, but I wouldn't mind it if SM was hosting them, better to have something than nothing
Please let me know, much appreciation (not that i don't mind the standard theplanet reverse, i just want to make full use of my domain. that's why i got it
Thanks again.

Servermatrix will host your PTR for you, just submit a support ticket telling them what you want for each ip
666.666.666.666 -> south.of.hell
etc...
