I just swithced some of my web servers here and now when ppl email us they get

<<< 550-relay through this server. Perhaps you have not logged into
the
pop/imap
> <<< 550-server in the last 30 minutes or do not have SMTP
Authentication
turned on

any ideas?
Paul
cpanel requires you to login to the server to send email, tell your clients to make sure they have "my outgoing server requires authentication" (or something like that) enabled in their mail client

(in outlook express: tools --> accounts --> click the account --> properties --> servers tab --> my server requires authentication checkbox)

The username as password they shoudl use is the same as the ones the use to login to their pop3 mailbox - most email clients use that information by default.

I guess it's to stop just anyone using your smtp server to send email, because they need to know a username and password to use it.

yea if I go to my yahoo.com email account and try to email myself on this web server i get

69.93.78.xxx does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550-web11507.mail.yahoo.com [216.136.172.39] is
currently not permitted to
550-relay through this server. Perhaps you have not logged into the
pop/imap
550-server in the last 30 minutes or do not have SMTP Authentication
turned on
550 in your email client.
Giving up on 69.93.78.xxx.

ah right, weird icon_confused.gif

Thats the exact error people get them they try to send an email via your smtp server without logging in first.

What's the full error they get?

edit: you edited your post icon_razz.gif

Whats is happening is a bit strange, I've not come across it before so don't know what to suggest.

Tried searching the cpanel.net forums?

Right above..how would they log in when they don't have an account with us? they are email sales@mydomain.com for information...
Paul
ok, check to see if the domain is listed correctly (your domain - the one that keeps bouncing the mail) in /etc/localdomains
something might have gone wrong when you setup the account (mydomain.com).
