Can anybody tell me if floodgaurd does/doesn't interfere with game servers running on the dedicated server?

(since its been mentioned before, but never really given a "for-sure" answer)

Thanks,

Chris

Yes, on some servers. If your game server is using TCP and sending less then 40 bytes on any packets, then FG will drop those packets. This will prevent you from sending and recieving such packets. This is due to FG dropping micro-packets (these buggers), which are commonly used for attacks. If your game uses UDP, then FG will not bother those packets.

The game I created uses roughly 12 bytes per packet for quite a bit of packets. I've more or less had to add in padding to my packets so FG wont drop them icon_smile.gif

I'm running a tetrinet server and there have been no problems at all as far as I can tell. I just wish I could get some feedback on FG in case of an attack or some fancy graphs to see if it's working.

what about the major dedicated game servers such as CoD, HL + mods (CS...) um Rainbow six 3, Halo, the list continues.......

Well.... the best bet is to try it out yourself.....

Some people here are running HL and CS servers w/o problems.

Ive had R6:3 running on my redhat 9 server using wine. The server itself worked fine, but punkbuster just wouldnt work for me...
