Does anyone have experience installing mrtg on any of the SM servers? I would like to roll out my own install of this. Would it give me the same results as SM once did? Would I attach it to eth0?
Thanks in advance.

Enable snmp on all your boxes, then have mrtg on 1 box, have it pull the ip with the snmp user and your set

for linux, i believe it is a download, for windows its already built in, and for freebsd it might be in the ports

Yea just got done putting snmp on all the servers and setting the configs for mrtg...added to cron and boom they are going

thanks again!
took me a bit on my first windows 2003 server..I had to get the resource kit then install some network services. I then had to create the community and start snmp..the linux boxes went quickly.

I wish to install MRTG also on my server but I'm having a problem. I've used MRTG in the past so I kinda know what I'm doing but can't seem to get any info from the NIC. SNMP is installed and the community is set but the config program comes up with no response. Do I have to put in a port number for the NIC? If so what is it or how do I find it?
thanks

Silly question I know, but is snmp running?

yes, snmp and snmp trap services are both running. It has to be something simple I'm doing wrong with the cfg script.

Yea you are measuring the bandwidth used via the net card. I have a web server running mrtg and snmp installed on 17 different machines. Every 5 minutes it queries those machines to build the graphs.
