For anyone thinking about getting a Debian server. Be aware that I just bought one and it came with the default 2.2.20 kernel which does not support ip aliases.

So in order to use extra IPs you will either need to upgrade the package to the 2.4 series or recompile the kernel from source..

If I can get a package properly made of the 2.2.x kernel with just IP aliases on I will post it here for anyone that needs it...

Or, specify the kernel version you want when you order, I did and they followed my instructions perfectly .
