Is there a configuration option somewhere that I missed to set maximum bitrate for broadcasts? What I'm afraid of is that when I start offering this service, that some people will want to broadcast at 128kps + and suck up all of the server transfer. I thought there might be an option somewhere in the config file but I can't seem to find it.

I'm pretty sure that this can only be dictated from the DJ side of things. The best thing I would suggest it to only allow certain IP's to broadcast through your server. Beyond that, no.. the Shoutcast server has no method of limiting the bitrate of its connected broadcasters.

I think whatever you set for your steam. (56k, 128k) That will be what you stream unless people stream from your station more than once.

This may not be feasible with the configuration I've been working on. This configuration would rotate DJ's and IP's hourly so the IP may not be the same one hour from the next.

So this would be on the DJ side also. I'm a little surprised that the server side doesn't have a way to limit this also. It's no wonder some of these servers are being bogged down with streaming. Do the logs show the bitrate somewhere?

The only thing you can dictate on the config for shoutcast is the max users and the port/passwords they can use. Basically you will haev to monitor the bandwidth and check periodically to see if they are over their cap. Also the log files should let you know who connected and at what bitrate.
I run an online radio network we have 9 shows who all use the same 2 servers and everything is working just fine. I would definatly suggest keeping logs of everything.

Actually, there are several other options, but I noticed this one was missing.

How do you set up time sharing? Do they share the same port/passwords?

yep, we all use the same broadcasting password and I found a php kick script so I could make the web administration password different from the broadcasting password and not have to give the broadcasters so much power and make it easier on them to kick both streams(56k and 24k) at the same time.

Is this different than the separate admin/broadcasting passwords already in the Shoutcast config file?

Well kinda, the way I set it up is I have a php script(one of these days will change it to asp) and they have inidividual rights to run that script then that script is what kicks the servers, the broadcast password is known to everyone but if one of them get fired all I have to do is to remove their rights to run the script. if they can't kick the stream than the broadcasting password will do them no good.
