For those customers who choose not to subscribe to our FloodGuard protection plan, we will still offer protection but a $250 incident reponse fee will be charged and we will require the purchase of one of the FloodGuard plans.

Does this means that if I do not purchase FG and someone atacks my server I will have to pay 250$ ?

I did but I'd like to have someone from SM to say plain YES or NO (dislike that you will not be charged but if you request FG later...bla bla)
You will NOT be required to pay $250 if you come under attack, you will only need to pay $250 if you come under attack at a local host level and you wish to implement Floodguard after the fact.
I guess the summary is that if you opt for FloodGuard now and got flooded, you are protected.

If you did not opt for floodguard now but later got flooded and you decided to add floodguard later, you may get charged $250.

However if you get flood but do not want to be protected later, you owe nothing
No.

It means that if you fall under a DoS / DDoS attack, and want to use the FloodGuard to mitigate the attack, you will be charged a $250.00 fee for Incident Response.

Incident Response consists of an "emergency" FloodGuard set-up, fast training of the FloodGuard device, isolation of the attack traffic, instant creation of your "protection domain", hand-coded discrimination filtering and finally - the mitigation of the attack on your servers.

The FloodGuard appliances really do work better and are more responsive when set-up in advance of an attack.

I will be posting a comprehensive explanation of how FloodGuard works, and how it is offered as a Managed Security Service in this forum later this morning.

Thanks. I was wondering if my server is under attack and floodguard takes into effect, will it deflect all traffic (good and bad) until the attack is over or will it only deflect the syn and DDos attack but other legitimate services still go through.

And will we be informed if floodguard kicks into action via email ? And would there be some online monitoring which we could see ?

It is all new to us.

That is the general idea (that it lets valid traffic through) icon_smile.gif

So yes, it will block out whatever "bad" traffic it can and try to let "good" traffic through.

I'm also expecting to get some sort of notification when FloodGuard takes action. I want to know that:

1) My server is under attack
2) Some traffic is being filtered and reachability may be impacted
3) I'm getting my money's worth

Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely happy to have the FloodGuard service, after that 8 hour DoS incidant a few days ago, I just want to know what's going on with my server icon_smile.gif
