Pardon my ignorance, but what is modernbill?

Modernbill http://www.modernbill.com is a for-web-hosting-company invoicing and billing system.

You could find the installation instruction from http://manual.modernbill.com/adminhelp/eng...n_Manual_v4.htm

Actually, if you are just learning you could opt for the Leased License Unlimited at $24.95 a month.

Perlbill http://www.perlbill.com is another option.

But seriously, if you said that you do not know anything about web hosting and know nothing about Linux, it might not be a good idea to offer web hosting services. I always believe that the web host should be the one with all the answers since your clients will depend their livelihood on you and if you cannot do your job well, their lives will be affected.

it works with BSD too

I love modern bill. It really saved my business. We grew very fast and at first we were doing manual invoicing. With modernbill we set it up to invoice 7 days in advance. It is a really awesome application and it is well worth the money.

Yes i agrre with you, you shouldnt get into something that you dont know how to do, bu i plan on using it for my game servers. Also, I plan on getting cPanel to make things easy.

I know a bit about it ( i do have a reseller account) but im mainly asking for help to learn all the things i need for web-hosting (since i offer them space with their game server if they choose to take it.

Thanks

P.S. The new one supports recurring billing with paypal, ( i know what that is on paypals side) but do you knwo exactly how they implemented it on their side and how it works for modernbill?

Something that became too expensive for me to pay monthly so now I'm using manual billing and saving the $500 for the one time license LOL. It is a very good peice of software but has too many features that may confuse the new users in my honest opinion.

I agree....

So far many of my clients are very happy with mb and have no problems.

Exactly why i use www.whmautopilot.com

Only $150 to own and only the features you need.. nothing more..

I tried www.whmautopilot.com about a year ago and was not too happy with tech. support. It took over three weeks before my demo was working and several e-mails to different people.

In the end tech. support manage to get it working but not until they inform me my server didn't meet all the specs for running their app.

I wish they had inform me much sooner....

I plan on using more than CPanel in the end so WHMAutopilot is definetly out of the picture.

Im loving my copy of MB. I am paying the monthly license right now, but it has been doing everything that I need it too. Hopefully adding a module or 2 for it will be easy, as I will need to do that soon™

We have used modernbill for the past few months and while it works good it just had WAYYYY too many features that i never used so with the money saved we spent $199 and bought perlbill which is prefect for what we need. Out of the box it's kind of 'naked' but once you play with it and get it customized it is very nice. Just don't expect support, They are MIA over there.. But if you know perl and are good at learning stuff you won't have a problem,

Billing software basically boils down to preference and use. If you plan on doing only cpanel then whmautopilot will work fine, but if you plan on offering more Linux control panels then modernbill may be a better choice. I'm not sure either will cover Helm or other windows control panels so it wouldn't matter which. And I'm not sure either would be worth purchasing or leasing if you are only leasing a basic celeron server. Afterall, your billing software would be more expensive than the server.

I've considered both, but so far, with a few modifications, I've been able to get Nixt to perform a lot of the same functions as whmautopilot for free so I haven't seen a need to purchase either.

I bought modernbill last april and its saved me much more than I have paid for it. Very worth its price. Using it with Plesk (which is not very easy at all cause of the way Plesk works). Thinking about moving to CPanel though.

I would never buy PerlBill due to the fact I bought PerlDesk and I have an open ticket in there support system after 6 months. I should of stayed with the free 1.5 version. They dont even use there own product(s).

I got a question....

Can , you config modernbill to allocate customers eqaully between 4 servers? and can you configure it so that as soon as the payment is recived that it creates the cpanel account and the customer can access it....

Thanks
Devion
I use whoiscart.net

Its basic of monthly billing needs and everything is eays to configure and what i like one time free of 34$!!! that also includes FREE updates for life and FREE support.

I agree that MB has some much to offer in function but id have no use for most of the program.

i just like whoiscart beacuse is simple to understand and use and it works icon_smile.gif and surposly version 3 is going to be very powerful (plus a better end user area)

I'm in the process of changing my billing system over along with the registrar I use and modernbill was one option, but don't think I can afford the $500 buy out price tag yet so am currently testing whoiscart and WHMAP. Too bad nothing has everything I want in a cart or it would be an easy choice. Each one has something the other doesn't.

just a few days ago whoiscart jsut realeased paypal subscription setups
(instead of email being sent when there hosting is nearly up) and it works very well icon_smile.gif

There doing 2checkout now but these are only small projects there main time is at version 3 which sounds like they have taken the best ideas from all billing software and came up with even better nice thing is they even take suggestions and do them!
