Full Version: Why is Terminal Services Installed by SM on Win2k3 standard?

I am curious why SM is installing terminal services on Win2k3. It's not needed to run Remote Desktop Admin. It's not even available in Web addition. You can just go to system properties and the remote tab and turn on remote desktop just the same as XP Pro. The only reason I know you installed TS was the annoying "your temporary TS license will expire in xx days" message I was getting.
Before anyone does something crazy let me warn you, even though you don't need TS installed if you uninstall it then it turns off remote desktop. (don't ask it's one of those MS things you can't explain) At that point you would need SM to go turn on RD or you can write a remote script to turn it back on.

Yes, we had a customer loos access yesterday so we had to get back in. Quite the little trick. I guess the SE that created the deployed image made a mistake. icon_rolleyes.gif
