What I am looking for is either renting a server or colocation for a clan. I am not sure what would be best for what I need so maybe someone can help answer some questions for me.

I am wanting a server that can play either Ghost Recon, Ravenshield and Battlefield1942 and run Teamspeak2. I would like to be able to run two games at a time but from what I understand, that would take alot of bandwidth for one connection. I need to be able to install new patches, maps and mods for the games. I would also need to be able to turn-on/off the games whenever I need to. One of the games would be running 24/7.

My questions are:

1 - How much bandwidth would I need per month to run one game 24/7?
2 - Could I run two games and the voice server off of one machine?
3 - What do you mean when you talk about like 100 gig bandwidth per month?

I know these questions are prolly simple but I'm a noob!!!! icon_cool.gif

Hello!

First of all, 100 GB bandwidth a month means that the server can transfer 100 GB of data over a month without you being charged anything more. It should actually be labeled '100 GB transfer'.

When running game servers, I would feel more comfortable doing so with 750 GB bandwidth than 100 GB.

You can definitely run your game servers and voice servers (such as shoutcast) simultaneously on the same server.

Of course, you must keep in mind that you need a powerful server. For instance, a P4 Celeron 1.7 won't cut it.

How many players can the connection support without lag?

Ravenshield - 16players
BF1942 - 32 to 64 players
Ghost Recon - 36 players

Do you provide AV software also?

What is the comtrol panel for windows so I could manage the server?

I would go with at least a SuperGamerz for what you are describing that should run those games just fine.

Basically what you get is a machine of your own with a kick a** connection. You would have to configure and install all the games yourself but with a windows machine it's pretty much like doing it at home, You login with remote desktop so you will be looking at the machine just like you would the one you are in front of now.

Your control panel is the Windows Explorer interface. icon_smile.gif You can install and configure whatever software you like. Your server's port will be set to 10mbit, so filter that into your bandwidth/player calculations. Hope this helps!

How much do you charge if you go over your bandwidth limit per month?

Also, any of you that have games servers, how much of the bandwidth are you using per month?
klaude
Unfortunately I don't know the cost of what happens if you go over your limit. Maybe a salesperson can field this one. But if all you're running are game servers you'l have to work pretty hard to exceed 750G a month. icon_smile.gif

I'm running Battlefield 1942 Desert Combat mod and it rocks. I am only running 32 players but I have no lag and my ping to the server stays around 60. I have the superserver. icon_lol.gif

How much of your bandwidth are you using per month? icon_cool.gif

I have been running some quake servers and a ET server. Just plan on 100 gigs of transfer per month for each server and you will be fine. With 750 gigs of transfer you computing power would give out before you reached that limit. In other words you could run 7-8 game servers and not exceed bandwidth...but not sure the computer could handle that many games.

kMan, $1 per extra GB.

But, as Klaude pointed out, 750 GB is quite a lot!

Trust me your CPU/Ram will give out before you kill the 750gb's of bandwidth

Actually the cost is $1.50 per GB over for bandwidth transfer.

Thanks,

Woops.

OK, I was confused by the bulk price for an extra 250 GB I guess.
