One of my clients is having trouble with FTP and my server. He tries to upload a file and it just times out for him.

I have tried this with the same software (Filezilla) as him and have no problem. He has tried it with other servers and no problem.

I thought it might be related to the firewall and the passive ftp port range not being explicitly opened, but I put the port range into the firewall (50000-50500) and that didn't fix the problem.

Can anyone suggest what I might look at next?

Thanks

Mark

PS: I am running RHEL3 with Cpanel/pure-ftp and ConfigSever firewall.

I believe pure-ftpd uses the passive ports "30000 35000" by default. And in the CSF firewall you need to open the ports for the TCP_IN = "... 30000:35000 ... "

Thanks for the reply. I changed the ports to 30000:30500 in both the firewall and the ftp server config.

The client is still reporting the same problem.

He sent me the error message he is getting:

Could not upload "EDITOR 5.png".: Server said: Could not open data connection to port 11620: Connection timed out. Error - 160: could not start data transfer

Is 11620 the local port on his computer? If not, where does that come from if my server is set to use the 30000:30500 range?

It's clear, the port that is trying to open is 11620. This is the port you need to open in your firewall etc.
