Full Version: Migrating from 7.5 to 8.1

I am going to be migrating Plesk 7.5 using IP xx.xx.xx.1 (PC Server 1) to Plesk 8.1 using IP xx.xx.xx.2 (PC server 2). After the migration completes I want to change the IP address xx.xx.xx.2 (Server 2) to xx.xx.xx.1 in Plesk 8.1. How do I do this in Plesk 8.1?

The migration software is probally not going to like 2 seprate versions of plesk it would probally be best to upgrade the 7.5 one to 8.1 first. Then attempt the migration. Also next time you might not wana post this in the how to section as if i recall right the how to section is for people to post how to do this or that not for asking how to do this or that.

the link posted is to upgrade to 8.0.1, there are several problems upgrading to 8.1 using the autoupdater, I would suggest waiting till it is fixed if you like your customers.

Otherwise, get a new server with 8.0.1, or 7.5 and attempt to upgrade it to 8.1, if you break it, oh well, if not, migrate your sites icon_smile.gif

I have not seen any issues with it. But if there are you can always just use the rpm version to upgrade.

I have migrated to Plesk 8.1 without any problems. I have found the link that shows you how to change the IP address in Plesk 8. Has anyone done this without any problems? http://kb.swsoft.com/article_169_943_en.html

I did a test migrate to test the emails and webpages. Can I migrate again or is this a one time migrate? If I migrate again will this delete the first migration or will I have to reinstall Plesk 8.01 and migrate again from scratch?

You'll need to delete the domains from the new server in order to re-migrate them. Otherwise the migration tool will see that they've already been migrated and won't do anything.

The only issues I had when migrating from 7.5.x Reloaded to 8.1 was a couple of issues with mailing lists that are already documented in a How To around here somewhere. If you're running mailing lists you'll probably want to shut down Qmail for a little bit. One of the things that happened in the migration was that everyone on every mailing list received a Welcome email (again) because of the migration. Shutting down Qmail will allow you to delete those before they're delivered.
