DNS - MX PROBLEM?

I followed these instructions:
http://www.sun.com/hardware/serverapplianc....setup.raq3.pdf

Which says:
QUOTE
5. To receive mail for “mydomain.com”, create a Mail Server (MX) Record. An MX record is similar to a
A record but points to a name rather than an IP address. It is critical that the MX record point to a name
which has a corresponding A record with the proper IP address.
• Select Mail Server (MX) Record from the Add... pull-down menu.
• Leave the Host Name field blank.
• In the Domain Name field, type mydomain.com.
• In the Mail Server field, type www.mydomain.com.
• For our example, the Delivery Preference can be left at High.
• Click Update List. See Figure 4.
6. IMPORTANT! Click Save Changes to DNS Server. This activates the changes you have made. If you
exit this screen without saving your changes, they will not become active.

Now, why whould the MX record be the domain itself? This is it cauing a loop rite?
What settings should be in the MX, HOW DO I GET MY MAIL TO WORK? icon_sad.gif icon_sad.gif

Sometimes my mail will stop working for a while on it's own. It fixes itself. Has your problem beena permanent one?
