I currently have domain xxxx.com running on an older server in production mode running Plesk 5. I just purchased a new server which I intend to migrate to. The new server has a domain name of xxxxtest.com running Plesk 8.0. After I am through configuring and testing on the new server, I want to change the xxxxtest.com name over to xxxx.com.
Can I simply do a doman name change in Plesk 8.0? If so, where in Plesk 8.0 do I do that?

No it does not really work that way you would need to create the site and move the data. Then migrate the dns. You can point the old server to the new server and then move the dns so there is a seemless change.

I wasn't totally clear in my original post which may have caused some confusion.
I am moving my data to the new domain and am testing from there using the registered test domain name. When testing is finished and I want to begin using the new server, I will change the DSN IP address for the original domain to point to the new server's IP address.
But the Plesk control panel will have the test system domain name in it. My question is can I just change that test domain name to the production domain name through Plesk.
I expect I may have to manually change the /etc/hosts file to contain the production domain name since I had to change it manually when the server was turned over to me. Originally it still had the Plesk install server name in it which was keeping FTP from working.

click on the particular domain, then click domain administrator, I believe it is the very first text field. Change that, and you should be set.
Also, just a heads up, dont set the server hostname to the same as a domain that your server hosts. I am not sure of the consequeces, but its just what I have been told.
