Full Version: Need manual FSCK on every reboot?

Hey all,

For the last few months everytime I reboot the server requests a FSCk. This happens both when/if the server crashes and also when I just need to do a reboot (without any apparent problems before reboot).

My question is: why would this be happening? Is my hard drive failing? What would I look at to give me some clues about what I need to do to stop this need for FSCK?

Thanks!

If you delete a lot or huge files a FSCK may be necessary. If you just do normal webhost type activity (very broad statement) then you should not assuming the hardware is ok. I would run a badblocks and smartctl test to be sure.

EV1 support says that the server was trying to mount a drive that was no longer installed and that this was caused a call for FSCK. That does make sense since they removed a hard rive for me a few months ago.......

if ev1 is right, make sure your /etc/fstab is setup correctly.

Also, you may want to re-create the journal file using tune2fs.
