Do you check your filesystem from time to time?

Recently I had a indicent when one of my drivers turned into read-only mode and after some investigation I ran manual fsck and after two runs all is good.

I have few servers that are quite used and have been in use more than a year, so I fear the day it happens there too.

What is the prevention or some general rule to check filesystem in linux?

Thank you.

every now and then run badblocks on the drive, and fsck the drive.

I also use smartctl as well, take the errors reported with smartctl with a grain of salt. A certain number of errors on a drive are normal, just keep that in mind when running smartctl. If the number drastically increases between each run(persay a week) then its time to replace the hard drive, or have tech support check out the results.
