Hello All,
I'm thinking of tossing Ensim X and going to Cpanel for my hosting business. I've been with Ensim since Version 2 and I'm a little hesitant of switching.
I remember back in 2002-03 Cpanel was very very buggy and had lots of problems. Is this still a issue with Cpanel/WHM.
Cpanel seems to have so many features than Ensim but I want to make sure I'm making the right choice as transferring all these sites isn't going to be a overnight thing.
Anyone suggest if I should switch? I pretty much know the benefits but I am interested in the CONS of switching. I know Ensim, for example, allows same email usernames to be created on different sites. Does Cpanel have this or do you have to setup aliases and whatnot? All suggestions are greatly appricated.
Also, are there any new developments of Cpanel that I should just wait for vs. switching now and than upgrading again within a few months. IF so I would rather wait for the new version than switch.
I'm trying to decide sometime next week.

Personally I am very pro-cpanel. They have always been on top of their bugs(the rare times they are found). They have a very easy update feature. If you are tech savy, there is a /scripts directory to help you with any trouble shooting you decide to do on your own.
Not to mention the fact that they dont use postgres as a backend, which for me is a MAJOR plus.(since im not to postgres handy).
I believe it should not be a problem having the same username on two different sites.
If you can swollow the cost for a month, I would suggest having a second server setup so you can play with cpanel a bit and get comfortable. There is also an ensim -> cpanel migration utility to help you migrate your sites.
I do like how ensim keeps its users fully chrooted. But overall for me im more comfortable in cpanel which is ultimately why I favor it.
I suggest, play with both, and see which one works best for your needs.

Oh yeah. Make the switch. You'll get a kick out of WHM and cPanel and your customers will definitely love it - Mine do!

I was told that Ensim is much more secure than Cpanel.
Does Cpanel have alot more security issues??

No but you may want to run php_suexec.
Moved from Ensim 2 years ago.
Best move I've made!

I moved from ensim to cpanel 2+ years ago and never looked back. I too was asking around like you and eventually decided to dive in. Cpanel is so much better than ensim if you are going to use all the default features. You can manage your box much better with cpanel. I do not know what is the state of current ensim but my previous experience with ensim is it's lack of support and it's nightmarish upgrades that will NEVER fail to cause problems.
The only problem I see with cpanel is it's lack of Apache 2 and mysql 5. If you don't need those, everything else is great. Oh yeah, and their ignorance to make their web-based email accessable with port 80.

cPanel vrs Ensim, overall I think cPanel is the better choice from an administration point of view. Yes it has its history of bugs and security flaws like everone else but they have matured past that. In my mind the two big issues is that Ensim has a lot of realy nice features but on the other hand cPanel is far easier to maintain and the upgrades actually works and fixes things.

if your not aware, Cpanel has an excellent support forum located
http://forums.cpanel.net/index.php
we've been using Cpanel/WHM for over 5 yrs now, 3 different servers, and wouldn't use anything else.
