Full Version: HOW TO: Quickly Check the Link Popularity of Any Website
The Planet Forums > System Administration > HOWTOs
SsZERO
Link Popularity is a fast and easy way to gauge how "deeply" a given website is indexed. The more a site is indexed, the more likely it is to receive free traffic from the search engines polled by the tool. Link Popularity does not check your ranking, it simply checks the amount of incoming links a given search engine has indexed for the domain.

To Perform this Check:
Simply enter a URL into the free Link Popularity Checker and view the results. Please note that you should check any variations of your domain, such as www.yourdomain.com and yourdomain.com as they are indexed separately by most search engines.

If you operate a website that deals with webmaster, SEO or related material, consider adding the Link Popularity Checker for your users - they will love you for it.

It is also important to note that search engines weigh the relevance and importance of sites linking to yours when determining how important and relevant your site is to the rest of the web.

Each link is considered a vote for your site – the more votes from other authoritative relevant sites, the better. In addition the search engines will devalue non-relevant links to the site.

It is also important to note that the differences in number relate to how each engine measures quality. Traditionally, Google is much more selective about the links it displays, while Yahoo! tends to display all links regardless of relevancy and MSN falls somewhere in the middle.

It is also important to note that not all search engines have the same indexing cycles, therefore one engine may have a much more complete list of all indexed links, while other do not. Therefore direct comparisons between sites should not be attempted.

Therefore when you are completing any link building tasks for your website, be sure to keep that in mind. Also keep that in mind when checking your inbound links
