Hello,

Someone who was running a hosting biz from a rackshack server has sort of... disappeared, along with my site. Is there anything rackshack can do? I don't care about the money, I care about my site, which had so much stuff I could never recreate it. This hosting company was called "bounceweb.com/bounceweb.net". To the RackShack staff: do you think you can tell me, is this guys raq simply down, or has he just disappeared. Either way, is there any way in which you could recover that data that was on my site? I will pay your staff, I just want to get to the bottom of this!

Thanks!

I don't think you will get very far with Rackshack with this kind of request. You could dig further for information from the whois record:

http://www.samspade.org/t/trace?a=NS1.BOUNCEWEB.NET -- please look here

Does this mean the problem is with Cogent, and not with bounceweb?

No the server does not appear to be online. What I thought might be more useful to you is the contact details:

Registrant:
Escalix (BOUNCEWEB-DOM)
51 Hillcrest Ave
North York, Ontario m2n 3n6
CA

Domain Name: BOUNCEWEB.COM

Administrative Contact, Technical Contact:
Or, Edward (EO915) escalix@HOTMAIL.COM
Escalix
51 Hillcrest Ave
North York
Ontario
m2n 3n6
CA
(416) 222-9973

Not to say it might be a fictional address - I don't know.

I feel for you however my question to you is this: Where are the backup tar's of your site? Your responsibility as a comsumer is to keep backups of your own site? I tell all our clients that we are not responsible for backuping their sites. This may be a very hard lesson to learn but im sure it will never happen to you again.

Yes I know, but with a 1000+ mb tar file and a 56k modem it isn't friendly. I guess I should just wait a while longer, the server maybe just went down and the guy is gone for memorial day.

I am Bounceweb“s costumer as well, I have 4 sites hosted with them.

I managed to contact them through escalix“s e-mail and received an answer that they were putting the server back online.

Angry customer,

Im so sorry to hear that, but your data is gone icon_sad.gif Due to liability reasons, rackshack does not do backups for customers. It is the sole responsibility of the admin, or customers to back up their data regularly. I can tell you that back ups have saved my behind many times. If you are unsure or do not know about how to go about doing a back up, I will make a section on my website (www.rackhelp.com) on how to do such.

Again sorry for your loss.
