Full Version: FTP transfer hangs at 1.2MB!

Hiya,

I searched for a while, but couldn't find anything similar to my problem, so hopefully I didn't miss posts...

I have a CPanel box with a few IPs and a few dozen accounts on it. My current dumbfound-worthy problem revolves around a particular client who is having problems transferring files via FTP with his account.

He hasn't registered a domain name, so he logs into FTP with his account into a Cpanel account I made for him on one of my other IPs. He just uses the IP address and the full username "username@account.com". It's ONLY being used for FTP access.

Anyway, this has worked great for months but now he's getting a funky problem where he uses an FTP client to log in and start transferring files. He will get a file downloaded up to around 1.2MB and then it hangs. There are several other people in his same building accessing the same FTP server account, as well as using other FTP accounts set up for testing... they all have had the same problem: log in fine, but the transfer stops at 1.2MB and hangs.

I am going to ask him to try setting the FTP client to "passive" and "non-passive" modes to see if one works over the other, since I found a post here about that with another issue.

I can access files on the account from here with no problems, and I have a friend testing it from his house and he gets in there fine... all with the same FTP account as the user with the problems.

I am using the ConfigServer Firewall (lfd/csf), but I don't think that's an issue here, since he's logging in fine.

Well... I'll shut up and hope someone has time and a suggestion!

Thanks HUGE for any help! icon_smile.gif

Did I ask this in the wrong forum? I thought I had it right, but now I'm thinking I put it in the wrong place... sorry if so.

BTW... FTP access for the aforementioned client is also much slower than normal, if that helps point to a culprit.

Thanks!

try using scp
eth00
If they all are in the same building sounds like some sort of an ISP or network issue. Perhaps their network has some sort of limit so they do not download too much at work? Is there anyway for the guy to connect to another network, it really sounds like a client issue.

As posted above could try scp or even another ftp client.

Thanks folks... I'm checking it out from these suggestions to see if it brings out any solutions. I'll definitely learn more about scp since it looks interesting, but I haven't seen a Mac version yet. I'll look again later.

I'm checking into the network issue on his end, but their IT department has been far less than helpful.

Thanks!
