Helm 4 is coming out in a week (the 17th). Will we be able to upgrade to this latest version when it becomes available?

Ok, nice to know. I will be holding off on updating for quite awhile since its a major upgrade. Are you going to risk breaking your existing installation by upgrading so soon?

I'm not going to upgrade right away. I'll sit back and watch others take the plunge first icon_wink.gif. I just wanted to know if this was even going to be an upgrade we'd be able to get with the licensing agreement EV1 has.

If you own your own HELM license like i do, you will find their upgrade pricing per year and or a full out price of HELM, a total and absolute joke. I remember paying 245.00 per license 1.5yrs ago. I have also purchased the upgrade insurance for another 105.00 per year just so i can keep getting updates to the software. Then aroun v3.1.2 they price increased to something like $599 and now i see on their pricing list $899 for a license.

In order for me to continue getting updates I'm going to have to fork out another $299 per year, as opposed to $105, per server to get the promised v4.

I think these control panel vendors have crossed the line between decent and simply GREEDY! They keep jacking up their prices and you continue paying more and more money every year just to run their software.

The truth behind buying software and owning it and getting free updates was over a long time ago. It doesnt exist anymore and this is the way business used to be conducted. Now every vendor i know takes the consumer for a big ride digging deeper into everyones pockets with promises.

Quite frankly im getting a little tired of them following Microsofts way of doing things. Dont believe me? When you have to pay $75 per incident to speak with a developer to point out their bugs and to have the issue resolved then you know they are on the MS path to ripping people off.

That is because the price at that time was around $499 and you purchased during a half-price sale, so yes, it would be cheap compared to the current price.

This was not a compulsory purchase - new features were added that warranted a price for the update. This was the only "paid" update that was on sale since the control panel was first created - do you believe that customers should continue to get updates for free, years after paying the one-off licence charge? I can't think of another piece of software that does that. Bug fixes - yes. Updates, unlikely. Still - as mentioned, it was not compulsory. If you want the features in the 3.1 > 3.2 update, then you buy them.

Actually, that is taken out of context. The price was $499 per server licence. That means that if you had 3 servers that you wanted Helm to control, it would have cost you $1497. The price now is $899 for the first server (the control server) and $299 for each remote server. Therefore on a 3 server setup the price is... $1497. So, no change. It gets cheaper the more servers you want Helm to control - 4 x servers would have cost you $1996 and it now costs you $1796. So for multi-server customers, Helm is actually cheaper than before. For single-server customers we have also introduced the reduced price standalone licences: Helm Lite 20 ($199) and Helm Lite 100 ($399) with upgrade paths as you grow, so there is something for everyone.

Yes - it is $299 per year, so if you have 3 servers or more, it already works out cheaper. Again, if you don't want Helm 4, it isn't compulsory.

Not true. We have stated time and again that if you purchase a support incident, and the problem turns out to be a bug, then you are entitled to a full refund.

Hope this clarifies things.

Will ev1servers license allow the upgrade to v4 once it's released? I'd like to try out the beta as we don't use the cp for anything but internal site setups at the moment because the billing and packages setups in v3 just don't really work for us. Trouble is I don't want to get a beta license and run v4 only to find out I'm screwed once the beta license runs out and the official is released

If you have leased license with ev1 then I m sure you'll get free upgrade from 3.2 to Helm 4 icon_smile.gif

Rubaljain, do you have any more information regarding the upgrade now that Helm 4 has been officially released?

Hi,

Helm 4 is officially out. There are some bugs and developers are working hard to get them sorted. I guess it'll be 100% by end of this month.

Thanks
Tina
Rubal,

Are you aware of compatibility/synchronization issue of Helm 4 with Modern Bill v4.4 and v5.0 ?

Thanks,

Tina K.

You are correct but so far EV1 is not on the ball with how to upgrade the licenses to Helm 4. After a marathon 20 reply ticket with EV1 staff they still do not understand that their Helm licenses (which some of us lease) must be upgraded by the datacenter and NOT the end user. If you own your own license then this does not apply to you.

In the end this was their response, which left us in a stalemate:

I'm sorry if there were any misunderstandings. We are not unsupporting version 3 of Helm. We just do not offer a license upgrade from 3 to 4. It's not that we are unwilling, We just have never offered that license version upgrade because of the recent changes with WebHost Automation which allows the customer to upgrade their license themselves. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The way it *should* work is that the datacenter needs to contact us to have them converted because they own the licences."

I finally gave up on EV1 and asked WHA for help. They graciously offered to upgrade the license for me. Apparently this has nothing to do with money. The EV1 licenses can be upgraded it's just that EV1 has no clue about how this works.

It has been over a week now since this issue and I suspect that WHA may have contacted EV1 about this issue. Either way I suggest that if you want your EV1 helm license upgraded "anytime" in the future that you start working on it now! FYI: Once you upgrade your license it will still work with Helm 3 and be Helm 4 ready.
