Is it possible to upgrade from 15GB VPS to 20GB VPS ?

If it's possible, i'll loose something (meaning files, conf or others)

Also, is it possible to increase system memory ? or hd capacity ?

Thank you icon_wink.gif

It is quite possible to upgrade from 15GB VPS to 20 GB VPS. You would simply order the new VPS, transfer your data over, then cancel the old VPS. If you are looking to upgrade just about everything on a VPS, why not just go for a dedicated server? Even if you could upgrade a VPS, which you cannot, if would cost about the same, if not more, for all the upgrades on a VPS versus just getting a dedicated server. For further information, please contact our Sales Dept. at 1-713-333-7873, 1-800-504-7873 (TX Toll Free) or 1-877-682-7873 (U.S. Toll Free)

Increasing the available disk space in a VE is a matter of a command in the control panel. It doesn't change anything on the disk, only the limit to how much disk space from the physical disk a VE may use.

They may have some business reason for not wanting to do it this way but there are not technical reasons (other than there not being any more disk space on the physical disk of course).

i would like to know what dedicated server that costs about the same price as a 20gb VPS like AMS_Deborah said.
Jeff
The new "Value Extreme" servers seem to be EV1's cheapest ever at $69.00 per month but support is limited for these, and "All servers in this series are currently SOLD OUT." so not really an option. I've tried a cheap $39/month ultra-low spec server a while back from another vendor and it just wasn't worth the hassle. Maybe the best advice is to work hard to increase your revenue so you can afford a server that will make you happy.

While you are correct that it is simply a change in the settings. It is not part of the offered packages. There is no set price for +5GB hd space.

And when upgrading the entire VPS, there is no guarantee that things wont come crashing down. So to avoid any complications, this is simply the best way to do it... from the business standpoint.

Just curious (I only have experience with virtuozzo from the client standpoint not the server admin standpoint) -- when increasing memory or disk space for a given vps account, what would cause it to suddenly "come crashing down". That doesn't sound very stable  and seems rather contrary to the virtozzo concept as presented in their ads where they for example show accounts being shifted between hardware with ease.

There are variables that rely on other variables. If they are not scaled properly, you can cause serious problems. I dont have the list infront of me to give you an exact example, but it gets rather tedious.

Most companies dont simply modify the hd space, or allocated ram, etc. They use templates, to be sure that each customer gets the same thing for the same price.

However when adjusting using templates, there may be some software upgrades as well, now the liability is being moved toward the company if something goes wrong. To avoid any problems, the method mentioned is just the safest for both the company, and the customers.

Coming to Virtuozzo's stability... you can knock over a stable building by removing a few important bricks. This is not to say that it is not stable! It is infact quite stable, however like anything else, the configuration can make all the difference in the world!
