The EV1 website states:
QUOTE (ev1website)
Is there a strategy in place? Are backups done automatically, how often?

We will maintain backups in case of problems on our end, but you still need to maintain your own. In other words, there is a good chance if something goes wrong that we will have a backup, but we strongly recommend you do not rely on that, because we cannot be held accountable if you experience issues and do not have backups available to you.

When I read that I think that EV1 is doing backups of the data on the server incase an issue were to occur on their end, like a hard drive failure.

This is not the case. EV1 simply "backs up" the data on the same hard drive that the data is on. If the hard drive fails, every one of their customers loses their information.

I am shocked to find that EV1 does not use RAID for their VPS servers.

Yesterday my server went offline. I submitted a trouble ticket and had an e-mail this morning that said the hard drive failed and that I can setup my server again.

I consider EV1's statements about backups very misleading. If anyone at EV1 is willing to work with me on this.. Please e-mail me at: korrupt@gmail.com or call me at 763-416-7051 (if no answer 507-202-2795).

My customer number is ES-226136

If anyone here has had a simliar thing with EV1 occur, please e-mail me also.

How on Earth is that misleading? You "need to maintain your own" -- period. It very plainly says that.

I don't work for EV1, and have no connection with them --- but this kind of pedantic garbage is exactly what's screwing things up.

If you can't understand the terms, find another company where you can. That's the nice thing about America --- you have a choice.

It also very plainly says that they will maintain backups incase of a problem on their end.

They don't. That is misleading.

"but we strongly recommend you do not rely on that, because we cannot be held accountable if you experience issues and do not have backups available to you."

All we ever promised is that we might have backups, but in the same statement we told you specifically that you should not rely on those backups.

If you cannot understand this line:
QUOTE

then really --- oh my god. They will maintain backups in case of problems on their end, i.e. backups of their side, their data, etc. in case of problems on their side. You need to maintain your own --- for your side, your data.

I don't understand *where* your confusion is! I am certain that it could not be any more clear!

The English is simple enough. It uses very small, easy to understand words, and short, simple thoughts.

I stand by my original assertion: How pendantic!

I have been faced with the same trouble my vps went down so I requested a reboot as I could not access my vps myself.

Only to find there had been a hard drive failure and there was nothing I could do about it.

They set me up with a new server and a slightly newer version of plesk.

The backup feature is handy on the vps but it does not allow you to download the backup to store off line. Which I find annoying.

Luckily I had off line backups available but the task of reconfigure everything and re-uploading everything was a pain.

I don't know the if it possible but it would be handy to have a useful backup facility in order to download and store off line. In cases like hard drive failure.
