Full Version: FreeBSD+Cpanel and managed hosting?

Does anyone here have experience with FreeBSD and Cpanel? Do they work as well as CentOS and Cpanel work together? I am thinking of switching to FreeBSD. How difficult can the migration be?

Secondly, does EV1Servers.net do managed dedicated hosting -- any experiences of users with this combo (FreeBSD + Cpanel) would be great. I am not very familiar with FreeBSD yet but would like to be.

Thanks.

They work together pretty good from what I've seen.

Just really matters how much you know BSD incase you need to do any admin from within the server itself.

and no EV1 doesn't do managed servers, they can help you with things and so forth, but nothing fully managed.

I've noticed that most third party server management companies don't list freeBSD as a supported OS for some reason.

I had a freebsd/cpanel server for about a day icon_smile.gif I ended up having the OS reloaded to centOS because my server management company didn't support freebsd and cpanel.

I honestly think the server was noticeably faster when it was loaded with freebsd.

I believe that FreeBSD is one of the best, if not the best, Linux distributions, especially the new releases, FreeBSD v5.4 and v6.0.

Although the cPanel doesn't support v6.0 yet, you still can get it up and running with few tweaks to the system.

Overall, you need to optimize and secure your server to get the best performance and speed possible.
