Full Version: CPU Load

This isn't about balancing but I couldn't find a better heading to put it under.

I have a Celeron 2.0Ghz server running RHEL and Ensim Pro. I currently have 113 domains on the server but only about a handfull that are actually busy.

I never use even a fraction of my bandwidth and when I check the server using TOP the usage always seems low, under 10%. When processing logs overnight the server sometimes resets as it seems log processing is putting excess load on the server.

Despite what seems like low CPU load, the server is piggy...in fact, I can't even log into Ensim at the moment.

I am trying to determine what the bottleneck is? Even though bandwidth seems low as well as CPU usage, do I need a bigger processor?

It appears I am not eligible for the $150 P4 2.6Ghz upgrade unfortunately so I can't go that route. I hate to have to move everything over to a new, more expensive server only to find that CPU load isn't my issue.

Thanks!

Look at that page I wrote and then post back what you find and I can double check that is a bottleneck.

Thanks for the great info...do you have similar advice for how to interpret SIM and MRTG, i.e. what values to look for that are pertinent to system performance other than simply seeing a rise and fall in traffic?
