Full Version: Blocked networks between ISPs and EV1

Over the past several months I have had e-mails from users saying my service doesn't work. Every time it has turned out my EV1 servers cannot connect to the user's Web site (at whichever ISP they happen to use).

This is not common, but in every case there's been an e-mail volley and traceroutes fail along the way from both directions (EV1 to them, and them back to EV1).. so someone is doing some blocking/filtering in the middle. It doesn't ever appear to be EV1, but other providers appear to be blocking traffic from EV1's blocks.. why is this?

The latest example is a compny called Net Access Corporation. They provide access for my user's ISP, and my user's ISP tried tracerouting EV1 and traffic stops at NAC.. and I tried tracerouting my user's ISP and traffic also stops at NAC.

This is happening with too many users for it to be 'one-offs'.. why do so many networks seem to be blocking or filtering EV1 traffic?

Because compromised machines get used to launch ddos attacks or spam and for a small local ISP ev1's bandwidth can cause big problems to their operations. They do not block just 1 ip, they block the whole subnet and you cannot blame them for that, i do the same.

Um.. Ev1's bandwidth could seriously hurt a few LARGE companies at the same time.. I mean, they have what 25 gigs of pipeline to lay the smackdown with?

petercooper,
If you'll go into your members section and open a trouble ticket providing us with error messages/traceroutes or anything that we can take to the other provider that has the block in place to show them there is a block we will do our best to get the block removed.
