I have the same problem. All 200+ sites on my server have been displaying "Unable to access configuration or direct linking is off" for several days, but it is "on". There is a message on the cPanel forum (
http://forums.cpanel.net/showthread.php?t=...ighlight=urchin) about a symbollic links problem in the "Current" versions of WHM, so I tried to downgrade to the "Release" version, but I'm getting pages of errors as follows:

The Urchin error started occuring after an overnight, cPanel auto-update (i.e. Urchin was working before the update, and was broken after the update). I tried running: /usr/local/urchin/util/inspector and got permissions errors, which I fixed, but cPanel just changes them back again!
I am re-running the downgrade to "Release" again to see if it will resolve the problem. I'll post the results when it finishes.
