Yesterday we ordered a bigger package with ev1 - thanks folks for nice prices and help, as always.
Now I am working on the "clustering" plan and wanted to go quite simple with what i will get from you:
2 dual xeons for "web-serving"
1 database and storage server in the back...
i want to push the traffic to the 2 web servers with round robin in my nameserver and read that you have load balancers in place? would you recommend to use your balancers or is round robin fine for me?
I also try to find a good article on NFS caching on the client, but even the official how-to on sourceforge is quite thin. I want to host all files on the central storage server and run a bigger cache for NFS on the clients to keep network usage low. Any good recommendations for NFS cache on RedHat?
Cheers,

well.. the main thing on this, is that if you run round robin and a server goes down you will be down for half of your clients. you can prevent this. And you can the traffic go 50% and 50% of the traffic. You cant do this with round robin.

hi,
i will run a low TTL on the round robin config, so maybe 10-20 minutes it could be that half of the traffic goes nirvana, but if ev1 would offer virtual IPs which they internally load balance, that would be great, too...
any experience with NFS?
cheers,
p!

what would you suggest instead of round robin?

Have you looked into the load-balanced server pairs?
http://ev1servers.net/hosting/load_balanced.asp
These come preconfigured to load balance http, ssl, and ftp. Also both servers come pre-configured with PNET accessibility.
Here's some detail on how the load-balancer operates:
