Full Version: using the space on my server

About 2 years ago I "purchased" the domain name and "everything" (whatever that means) from ev1, for my company.

The only think I have done is to setup 2 email accounts so we could use on business cards. Those emails are forwarded to our local ISP email addresses.

I develop and maintain an application for users around the country.
I want to do the following:

Some of my users are dial-up so my only access is via modem. To do an upgrade takes from 1 to 2 hours. I use pcanywhere, dial up there machine and transfer the executable then do the upgrade. I would like to upload the executable to the space on my server/domain and then have them download it from there. Once accomplished I could dial in and do the upgrade.

So basically I want to allow my users to go to the website and download an exe to their local hard drive. I probably should require users know a password so not just anyone can download.

I am a programmer with 15+ years experience but no server or internet wizard at all. Where do I start? I suppose I need some software or someone to setup the website. Right now it says "This page is a place holder for the home page of your own web site".

Thanks,
John

Create a site with password protected directory and upload your program. Incidentally, your server is badly in need of an upgrade.
