Full Version: 7.5.4 Updater Upgrade

Since I was already backed up for the hurricane with psadump, mysqldump and a full rsync image of the server I decided over the weekend to attempt a update to 7.5.4 from 7.1.6 through the CP.

Well it failed and left the server without http, mail and CP access, I tried for hours to fix because my customers were warned of possible downtime over the weekend anyway.

I ended up restoring from rsync images back to 7.1.6, it would be nice if the updater, when and if it fails, would return the system back to it's previous state...I would at least expect that.

So I would advise...if you are going to use the Updater in Plesk, have solid backups done and ready beforehand.

You can not go from 7.1.6 -> 7.5.4 without steping thru the other version unless you do an rpm install/upgrade. Also auto-updater does not work very well I always recommend a rpm upgrade/install. If you are looking for someone to do the upgrade for you I am avliable.

I did step through the other updates, 7.1.7 went OK..moving into 7.5.x was hell....

I don't need any help....

My post was to help the noobs not to try this without solid backups!

In fact I know better than to try the updater, but as I stated I had backups so I thought I'd give it whirl.

Plesk is good, but the Updater makes me wonder about the Plesk people and whether it's a good idea to stick with their product.

The updater should verify everything and then prompt the user to continue or not..meaning check for a conflict first before loading anything then just aborting later and leaving you with multiple versions of the panel installed..

BS to say the least....

Mis-understood then. But yes I agree. The auto-updater is broken. It definately needs much work from plesk.
