Full Version: Does Helm Control Multiple Domains on one IP all by itself?

Just came from a Windows 2000 Server, where I had a bank of 10 IP addresses. NO HELM. So Helm is new to me as of a few days ago.

On my Windows 2000 server, I usually just assigned specific IP addresses to domains via IIS.

Now I understand that I can have multiple domains sharing one IP address on this Helm 2003 Windows Server.

I have set up a few users & domains with HELM, and uploaded the web files. (Very easy once I realized I couldn't create users from the admin panel, and had to create all users from a reseller account ... DOH!)

Is there anything else special I need to do here for managing multiple domains on one IP address? Do I have to do anything special in IIS? Or does HELM/IIS know this will be happening ... and all I have to do is Add DNS pointers via a TICKET in my control panel?

Thanks in advance.

Nevermind, found this answered at Helm's website:

"This is a standard feature of ALL web servers, not just windows2003, it's called host headers. The only reason you need a dedicated IP for each site is if they have SSL.
As long as each site has a different host header they can all be on the same IP, there is nothing special you need to do."

Helm puts in the headers for you.

Yes, I'm surprised you've gotten away with using dedicated ips on a per-site basis. There is an IP-shortage (demand exceeds supply) and using an IP where name-based hosting would have worked is not permitted by ARIN.
