OK, differnt box, different client. ProFTPD appears to be terminating connections immedaitely with this error in the syslog:

FTP session opened.
ProFTPD terminating (signal 11)
FTP session closed.

This box WAS working at some point. A little googling has lead me to beleive that there might have been an update to proftpd (server's copy is dated 6/27) but no resolution on this problem.

Any ideas?

I would go to the ftp manager and switch to pure-ftpd which seems to be more supported and overall works a lot nicer. Pure-ftpd will also connect faster for clients which is always a plus.

cPanel has pushed out proftpd 1.30 rc which is broken - this is causing issues for a lot of people. Downgrade it or switch to pureftp.
